Oh goodness <3
I've read / listened to SO many people tell me how to gain followers, when to post, what to post, (one person told me a prime time was first thing in the morning when people were using the restroom.. honestly). This is so freeing and refreshing to let go of the fear that I need to have all of these people, many whom I've never met or connected to, following my page. You're truly such an inspiration to me, and I love both your blog and Fine Art Compositing- I can't wait to go try out some awesomeness.
Thanks for really hitting it home as I'm trolling through all of your posts and having these aha moments- It's time for me to put my camera to real use and stop doing what everyone else is doing :)

I'm catching up on your blog because mid morning I found myself in a rut and unable to find any motivation. The pull of the work that makes me a living versus the work I feel I need to do but never have time for is sometimes too much. Yet, two posts in to my catch up reading and you and your community have already lifted my spirits. so, from the 'follower's' perspective the way to gain and keep a community is to consistently give them what they need. And you always do that for me, thank you Brooke.

Hi Brooke,

This topic is so timely for me. I have recently become very active on flickr and am falling in love with the community that I have found there. It really is about fostering an environment of mutual support and regard with other artists. We are getting to know one another very well through the art that is shared and through the comments and responses given. The people I have met there know me in ways that others in my life do not, simply because they understand where my art comes from and my deep need to create. And I get them too. Flickr has been a blessing in my life.

It takes courage to put oneself out there as an artist and as a human being. You are a model of inspiration for how to do this. Thank you for all you do and for creating a community where art can flourish.

Social media has been SO AMAZING for my personal life haha. I have made so many photography friends online that I've now met in person & formed incredible bonds & friendships with. I probably never would have met these wonderful people if it wasn't for the give and take of the internet. If I see a picture I love or read a post that I find inspiring, darn strait I'm going to leave a comment telling them just what it meant to me! The other thing I find super helpful is to always respond to everything. Obviously there are time's when I get busy and get behind, but for the most part if anyone comments on anything of mine I'm going to respond. It's a two way street, and like you said you've got to meet in the middle. :)

I confess that I never stopped to think on that expression "followers". A few days ago, I said to a artist, that I had the pleasure to follow her work and her person, but maybe I should have said that I have the pleasure to admire her work and her strength. And thinking on this issue, leads me to agree with you, when you talk in terms of community rather than “followers”. It makes much more sense. A community, where we can share (pictures, ideas…), admire the work of each other and where everyone has the right to like or dislike and express it with mutual respect. I actually wish more critical of my work, because I think it is a way to learn. I really like this community that I found here on this blog. I found wonderful people with fascinating works and people like me, with fears and facing them daily. Fortunately, I already had the pleasure to talk to some of these people, which made me very happy. And I will continue to appreciate and compliment the work, without expecting something in return. But I will not be stupid and say I am indifferent to that, and of course, I also like to get compliments on my work. :D I wish, all of this community, a great week. <3

Such valuable lessons Brooke! I definitely need to convince myself often of what it is all about in the midst of the frenzy all around us for 'more likes'… I enjoy social media because it allows me to express myself and share my work, see and appreciate what others are doing and connect with people from all over the world, regardless of distance and nationality!

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. You have not only inspired me to be okay with my ever growing passion for photography but you have let me know what it is to be human. Occasionally I pop in on Monday's to see what amazing thing you can share with us all. This week you happen to mention allowing all to have their own opinion, allowing all to be who they are no matter if it serves the purpose we intended or not. The love for others and the beauty in life is so large within those who create. I am so thankful to know you through the internet and can only hope one day a light inside someone shines because I shared my passion just as you. Well wishes

Before I watch the promoting passion of this week I was just reading about the same concept. One thing that you mentioned about Negative opinion reminded me of the sentence of a book I was reading today. "Don't take the nagative opinions personal, sometime they are about the an specific art work you made not the person you are" . or the they are about the position we have in daily life as a teacher, artist or etc not necessarily about who we are as a person.
