White Wall Wednesday: Episode 3

White Wall Wednesday: Episode 3

A blank space provides the perfect canvas to showcase emotion – to let the figure, form, and character come alive through minimalist imagery. I have always loved photographing skin, or natural fabrics, on a white wall. It is uncluttered and lets the story shine through. In this week’s episode of White Wall Wednesday I’m focusing on emotion and simplicity, using the blank space as it is and transforming it slightly in Photoshop to enhance how neutral it feels.

I encourage you this week to create with a blank space and leave the space alone – utilize emotion or simple storytelling techniques to create an image that speaks to you. I hope that you enjoy my rendition of that goal, and be sure you post your images below!

    1. Hi Viktor! What an amazing way to portray that emotion. I definitely see the idea shining through loud and clear and love what you’ve done with the lighting and negative space. Keep sharing!

    1. Hi Onno! Really great use of connection to the camera. With such a simple space it can be important that the subject/character is engaged with the audience in some way, and her eye connection is moving!

    1. Hi Mary! I love your endless creativity and getting to glimpse it. The pose in this image is strong and committed, and I love that about it. I love when a character really commits to an action. Thank you so much for sharing, inspired as usual!

  1. I haven’t had the time to work on my image. I worked all day, and was going to sit down in the evening to work on it. Well I was in my chair for about 5 minutes, when I found out my well pump quit. So worked on replacing it until after 9:30 so I didn’t get any work on my image done. 🙁
But it brightened my day to see your video, and beautiful photo. So thanks for that! 🙂
I am still self conscious about self-portraits, but I am working on getting past it. 🙂

    1. I’d love to see self-portraits from you, I think it’s the most amazing way of expressing a character. And trust me I get that things happen. Recently I had a couple of weeks where I was convinced the universe was stopping me from taking pictures 😀

      1. The last post of my cardboard box conversion, I am the model. All my photos are just my, one of these days I will get a model to work with. 🙂

    1. So moving Jen, I am so glad that you are able to express some of what you’ve been through, and it’s so brave of you to do so in video form – to talk about it, to be open, to help others through your honesty. Love you 🙂

  2. Hey Brooke! I must say that you are my truly inspiration to photograph people and try to put some feelings into my images. You’re so amazing! A couple of years ago, I bought a superzoom camera to take some pictures of landscapes and birds. One day, I was searching on youtube for the best ways and styles of photography and then I saw you. It was love at first sight!

With a non-professional gear I did this inspired by you. Thank you so much for that!
I bought a new camera recently to work better when the sun is gone. I have a lot of ideas popping up through my mind.
I hope to see you here in Brazil someday or even in some place around the world. I wish you my best Brooke, thank you so much!

  3. Hello Brooke! Thank you for taking time to make these videos, you are truly inspirational. The emotion that I wanted to portray in this photo was shyness. I have pretty much been shy my entire life to some degree. I just recently started to dabble in self portraits and although I would prefer to photograph other people I find that photographing myself is helping me overcome my shyness. https://www.instagram.com/p/BIlrQOiAit_/?taken-by=jramfoto
