Promoting Passion Video: Finding Adventure

When was the last time you did something completely weird, unique, off-the-wall, and just plain out of your comfort zone? When was the last time you felt truly scared for something you wanted to do, or excited for something you’ve never done before?

I believe that adventure is the heart of our lives, and that everyone lives adventure differently. I feel most alive when I do something that scares me, but on a greater level, I simply try to live my life as a character in an interesting story.

Three things I do to keep adventure in my life:

1. Write myself into a story. I make believe that I am a character in a unique world, and then I use that inspiration to create art out of it. This way I get to see myself becoming a character, often through some type of self-portraiture, and I get to imagine a new life even if only briefly.

2. I get lost. I get in my car and go, or start walking and see where I end up. I love finding new places and losing that sense of control that comes from following a GPS.

3. I face my fears. I spend a lot of time figuring out what I’m afraid of and why, and then I go out and conquer those things that scare me. I love to overcome my fears in this way, and those experiences always end up being the most adventure-filled, and the most worthy.

What will you do this week to add ADVENTURE into your life?

Don’t just go onย an adventure, live your life as an adventure!

  1. One of my favorite adventures is to hop on my bike and do exactly what you do in your car, GET LOST! I turn onto a road I’ve never been down and see where it leads. I just LOVE the wind in my face, the sun on my back, and the beautiful rolling Pennsylvania farmlands to envelop me. This is where I do a lot of my creative thinking and have some of my best ideas.

    1. That sounds like perfection. And being from the same place, I know exactly what that looks like…it really is some of the most beautiful scenery! I wish I was doing that right now ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Wonderful post.

Oddly enough, it was the integration of the GPS years ago that lead to a huge jump in exploration (via vehicle) for me.

Once the GPS was in the car we would feel free to drive down any tiny little back road.. any turn we hadnt taken in the past. Always trying to see more areas, even locally to us.

With the GPS you always had the ability to hit “home” at any time and you were on your way back. Even traveling to see clients we would wander back through new roads and towns.

Sooooo many new and wonderful surprises came from those trips.

I think one is woefully overdue ๐Ÿ™‚
Hope you had a great weekend Brooke.
Love the piece and the post.

    1. Haha i love that! So true! I agree – I do keep a GPS with me most times for the way back, otherwise I surely would have met my demise a while ago ๐Ÿ˜›

  3. Totally LOVE this new image of yours – brilliant!! In the “adding adventure to my lift” category, my husband and I are going to Colorado in 6 weeks so I am looking for places to “get lost” while we are out there. Rather than staying in one spot we’ll be splitting our trip into two locations (double the adventure). Were it not for planning large and small trips I would definitely lack a sense of adventure – leading me to believe that I was an explorer in another life as that MO totally resonates with me! Locally though I do as you and just get in the car and go and see where my wheels take me ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. I love that you are treating a vacation as an adventure. I feel its common to go somewhere and do what’s safe. I hope you have a grand adventure full of inspiration – I know you will! Update us and share pics!

    2. Oh, for us, vacation is a time to commune with nature and explore!! The more places we can pack into one the better!! I actually just got back from Oregon where I was visiting my sister, sans husband, and spent several days alone driving in the mountains shooting waterfalls, going to the beach and shooting a shipwreck (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10203937397901470&set=a.1074901078911.13566.1417729609&type=1&ref=notif&notif_t=like) and other totally fun places!! I’ll definitely share the Colorado pics ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Love seeing the crazy side of you, haha! I love experiencing new things, getting lost and finding new things in life! What’s the worst thing that could happen? ๐Ÿ˜€ Thank you for the weekly video, they are always awesome ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. Hehe! I love being silly, which is good because I think it might be involuntary ๐Ÿ˜›

  5. This week?
Well, I’m gonna hop on a plane to Paris with my wife. We rented an apartment across from the Louvre that we are gonna use as our home base for adventures. We are planning to do some day trip adventures to St. Michele, Normandy, Champagne, Versailles and then wherever else we decide the adventure will lead us for 8 days.
Then, my wife is flying home and I’m going to hop on a train down to Salernes and hang out with some pretty cool people and take some pictures. There’s this way cool chick running the whole thing but I forget her name. Should be fun.
    Haha

O.K. I’m totally geeking out. I leave Wednesday! So excited.

  6. Oh this post just made me happy ๐Ÿ˜€

This week I’m heading out on a 6 hour road trip on my own to visit a wonderful lady (the mother of a very special friend of mine) that lives on a farm and rescues abused and unwanted animals. I’ve been looking for an initiative to give back and then I recently spent some time on this farm and I knew that I wanted to be involved… So I am going back to take photographs of all the animals and help put together a website for this sanctuary <3

    1. That is SO wonderful Margherita!!! Saving animals is very close to my heart. My husband and I volunteer at a place called Best Friends Animal Sanctuary and love to try and give back to the animals. You are so great for doing this!

  7. Beautiful! I loved seeing your expression and saying “fantastic” after you go down the dune. Now that’s what is to be happy. It was very good to arrive home, after work, and see this video and smile, also thinking about my adventures in the past. Currently, my greatest adventures, is go to do mountain biking (MTB) and overcome fear down the mountain at high speeds on narrow paths between trees and shrubs. Unfortunately I’ve had some falls, but nothing serious. The most serious was a sprained knee… As for this week, the biggest adventure I will do is always wake up with a beautiful smile and make those around me smile too. But this weekend, the adventure is, losing myself and finds new paths, but always on MTB. Love the photo. <3

  8. I’m going to have a surgery next week, its a huge challenge to me and adventure (I guess). I have been nervous and scared in this couple weeks, I was thinking does surgery hurt? successful finally? thinking to much I know, but I can’t stop it. When I saw this post, its make me feel much better and really for overcome my problem. Thanks Brooke and have a good day ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. You’re bonkers Brooke lol
Made me smile seeing you at the bottom of the sand dune, what a content face that was.

My big adventure is about to happen – no more day job!

But last night did some “green laning” and ended up in a beautiful yellow rape seed field, the sky was grey blue peach and yellow, with rain clouds building in the distance – freezing cold wind blowing but absolutely amazing and I’m looking forward to editing the images I took. Hope you have another bonkers day today…….go on you know you want to! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
