Promoting Passion Week 56: Failure Mantras

Promoting Passion Week 56: Failure Mantras

When you need a little pick-me-up, here are some mantras against failure:

“There is never only one opportunity presenting itself. Remember to look where the distraction is not taking place. If you have no luck searching, get your hands dirty and build your own.”

“You are never defeated until you acknowledge your defeat. Rise again, determined to shine.”

“There is no such thing as something not working. When one thing doesn’t go well, it is simply the start of something else working beautifully.”

“Seek those who would enrich your life rather than a multitude who would stand side by side until a more alluring opportunity came around.”

What are some words of wisdom or advice you have for pushing past failure?

  1. We all handle fear differently…but one thought that always comes to mind is one that I gathered a long time ago from a movie called Strictly Ballroom…the character Fran…just blurts out a phrase in Spanish…I wish I knew the Spanish form…but it translates to mean…a life lived in fear is a life half lived…whenever I feel fearful I often think of this …it helps me to regain my self…and then i laugh at fear…sounds silly…but it works for me . 2. I LOVE this! Thank you… Glad to know I’m not the only one who uses mantras. My mantra to deal with hardships is:

“I’m sorry. Forgive me. Thank you. I love you.” –

Sometimes I’m saying sorry to myself, others, a situtation, whatever. But I recognize I feel bad and accept responsbility for it.

Forgive me can be to myself, others, situtation. But it’s the closure & forgiveness I need.

Thank you can also be to myself, others, etc… and is accepting with gratitude the understanding, forgiveness, lessons, acceptance I need to move on.

I Love you – which can also be to myself, others, etc.. and is that love I feel, I need and given with gratittude for the understanding, forgiveness, acceptance and ability to move forward.

Sometimes, I really need to forgive myself and remind myself to love myself.. It may be silly but it helps… Thanks so much for you posts. I love them.

  3. Pushing past failure? Sounds like a muscle-building term. lol!!!

I think the best thing that has helped me is leaving love notes to myself everywhere in my house. So when I have those moments where failure seemed to creep up on me or I made a mistake – I can still remember that I am valuable and a human that is learning and growing. After being a photographer for 7 years now(ish) – I can say it has trained me to look at failure as opportunities. It strengthens my creativity muscles! I’ve learned to not have emotional meltdowns…but FEEL the feelings, just not melt down from them. Take the event as the learning experience it is…and tweak it, shake it and get up and do it again. (if that is part of my purpose in life). 🙂

    Have a great week everyone!!!!!!
Someday, I am GOING to find a way to merge fitness and creativity. There is just something about strengthening and conditioning ourselves for creativity, love and passion!

  4. When trying to accomplish something and running into problem after problem or failure after failure, I try to remember to step back and say “It’s not supposed to be this hard—if it won’t fit, don’t force it.” Just because I made up my mind on what success looks like, or the path way to get there, doesn’t mean the universe agrees with me. Most of the time stopping fighting and getting some perspective will show me an easier way or better solution. Everything can be solved with time and patience.

Thank you Brooke, for helping me remember that. I would love to be a member of your community—it sounds wonderful!

  5. Brooke, I am so inspired by you…thank you.
My 16 year old son reminds me often of this fact:
Thomas Edison had 1,000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb before his success! 1,000 attempts!
Sometimes it takes longer than we think to reach our goals.

  6. Beautiful quotes! I loved it! If we remain in a comfort zone, we will never use all our capabilities. We must go out of our comfort zone and conquer our goals. And we have to be aware that when we do this, failures will emerge. It is inevitable! So failures are part of our life and we should not be afraid of them. <3

Benjamin franklin: “Who does, can commit failures, but most of all faults is to do nothing.”

Unknown: “Failures are the fuel for the success.”

Mahatma Gandhi: “In the great battles of life, the first step to victory is the desire to win.”

Paulo Carvalho: As bad that the phrase is, in the end it will always have an end point. And then begin a new paragraph.

  7. Excited to hear all about your adventures in India and of course to see the images you created there.

My one mantra that I wanted to share…
“Emotions can be a powerful source of inspiration. Do not be afraid to reach to your emotions and to let them guide you to express them and to be inspired by them. Creating is healing.”

  8. Brooke, thank you for sharing your mantras. They really helped me realize that I need to pick myself up and move on from something that recently happened to me. When I went in to a gallery meeting a few weeks back, I was not expecting what happened. I was told that my work was great, but they wanted me to change what I do as an artist to be represented by their gallery. I was disappointed, and I started questioning my art as a whole. I have been upset about it since, but this really helped me realize that I need to move on.
You inspire me daily, to be a better artist and a better person. Thank you for everything you do!

  9. My Mantra:
“Falling is a good thing. I learn and teach from it. Therefore.. If I fall… I can help YOU back up.” This mantra makes me feel like my failures are not about myself.. They are a means to share enlightenment with others. I live by this. Thank you for sharing, Brooke.

  10. Ola!
All of the answers that you got to your beautiful post and surely your post itself respond wonderfully to what so many of us are going through at the moment. I ve just returned from Japan where I stayed with a potter. The place where he lives is remote and its one of the most quiet places I ve ever been to.

However, back where I live I feel that its comparison that steals our joy. This is no big news but I so intensely feel it right now that I d like to share it here talking of fear and failure. Dwelling in our little places where self-consciousness reigns and assessmanet runs high we live in a society where we have shallow frameworks for calculating worth both others and ourselves. The more important it is to connect, spread love and open up.

Love how you want to grow your own community and surely I d like to be part of it.
My favourite words at the moment are:
I am the master of my ship
I am the captain of my soul.
    🙂

  11. Amazing post, Brooke. I love it.

I have two mantras that I love, which both touch on becoming conscious / aware of the possibilities that exist in our field:

“Your first power is your choice as to where you put your greatest attention.” ~Leland Purvis

“The most important skill you will ever develop as an entrepreneur is the ability to take action on the things you cannot see.” ~Maria Gamb

When I get stuck, I often remind myself that my perception of a situation can *always* be expanded beyond the superficial walls I’ve built for myself. The bigger picture is already there ~ it’s simply a matter of becoming aware that it exists. This shift in awareness can open countless creative doors. I like to imagine myself inside a circle, then all kinds of crazy and beautiful things ~ things that weren’t a part of the original plan ~ outside that circle. The circle represents *my reaction to* hitting an obstacle in my creative process, and for the moment, I can’t see beyond the circle’s wall. But I’m the one who put it there ~ no one else did ~ which means I can also remove it. The trick is to move forward from a space of curiosity and adventure, not frustration, and just organically allow the “failure” to uncover a hidden treasure.

(I actually have a sketch in my notebook for an image called “The Land of Stuck,” which I hope to release this Spring.)

  12. I usually using “sometimes we gotta to lose in order to win again”. My past haunted me so much until I forgive myself and others. Never give up and love yourself 🙂

  13. I realized just recently how fear controls me and keeps me from creating. The fear that my every day life and my household will fall apart if I don’t spend every waking moment planning and doing household chors…. sounds kind of silly but it is a real problem for me. It keeps getting worse and I will definitely use one or more mantras from here to try and get my life on the right track again. I know I have to create to have some meaning in life, it is the air that I breathe.

  14. Dear BROOKE, Hey, I just accidentally learned how to turn the cap lock on. Cool! Thank you for once again hitting me with what I needed to hear, right when I needed hear it.I can’t wait to someday take one of your classes, and meet the person that inspires so many.
    Thank You!

  15. “There is no such thing as something not working. When one thing doesn’t go well, it is simply the start of something else working beautifully”

I think I’m going to borrow this one for a while, until the something else makes itself a little more obvious:)
